Incoterms®
Two categories
The 11 Incoterms®2010 are divided into two main groups: 7 rules which apply to any mode of transport and 4 which only apply to sea and inland waterway transport. On this page we will only describe the Incoterms® which apply to any mode of transport.
Ex-works
EXW
The seller should make the goods available to the buyer on the premises of the seller or at another agreed location in the country of departure, non-cleared for export and not loaded on the vehicle that will pick up the goods.
Free Carrier
FCA
The seller must deliver the goods, cleared for export, to the carrier appointed by the buyer at the agreed location in the country of departure.
Carriage Paid To
CPT
The seller must deliver the goods, cleared for export, to the agreed carrier and must also bear the costs for the transport of the goods to the agreed place in the country of destination. The buyer has to bear all costs and risks after delivery of the goods to the agreed carrier.
Carriage and Insurance Paid to
CIP
The obligations are the same as under CPT, with the additional condition that the seller must take out insurance to reduce the buyer’s risk of loss of, or damage to the goods during transportation.
Delivered At Terminal
DAT
The seller must deliver the goods, cleared for export, at the named port or terminal of destination. The seller has to bear all the costs for the transport of the goods to the named place of destination.
Delivered At Place
DAP
Seller pays for carriage to the named destination and assumes all risks prior to the point that the goods are ready for unloading by the buyer on the incoming mode of transport. The buyer is responsible for import clearance and pays all duties, taxes and other import related costs,
Delivery Duty Paid
DDP
The seller is responsible for delivering the goods to the buyer at the named destination, cleared for import and ready to be unloaded. This includes all costs and risks in bringing the goods to destination, as well as all export and import duties, taxes and customs formalities

Attention:
- Shipping DDP to Norway is not possible via the DHL eCommerce services.
- The standard delivery method for parcels to consumers in the UK is Incoterm Delivered At Place (DAP).
Agreements between seller and buyer
Incoterms® are agreements between the seller and the buyer of the goods. They have no bearing on the carrier of the goods. More information on Incoterms® can be found on the website of the International Chamber of Commerce.
